What Is Normal Apartment Wear and Tear?

If you have ever read your lease or tried to get a security deposit back, you probably already know that landlords are liable for normal wear and tear, but what exactly is that? A tent’s deposit can and will be deducted for damage, which is obvious when you see it, but what falls under wear and tear? Things like a warn carpet from regular foot traffic (particularly at doorways) would not cause you deposit to be deducted. But large holes, burns or any deeps stains will.

The same idea can be used on the walls. Small nicks or tiny holes are fine, but large stains or big holes are considered damage and will get your deposit deducted. Small bathroom stains are also considered normal wear and tear, as well as worn paint. But do your best to leave your place spotless once you move out, so no issues will arise.
